Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group is the award-winning owner and operator of some of the world’s most prestigious hotels and resorts, currently operating 21 luxury hotels with a further six under development in Hong Kong and Tokyo (opening 2005), Prague and Riviera Maya, Mexico (2006), Boston (2007) and Chicago (2008). With the arrival of Digital Video on Demand (DVOD), hotels now have the chance to gain a competitive advantage by installing these systems. This session will review the experiences of several international hotel groups who have installed DVOD, including reasons why they adopted this technology over the traditional tape based systems, and whether usage rates have risen. Other topics of discussion will include methods of financing plus opinions on where in-room entertainment is headed in the future.
