Travelers booked through the ABACUS system now have access to personalized travel information via the Internet, PDAs and mobile phones, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, either by accessing the Virtually There Web site at www.virtuallythere.com/abacus , or clicking on the emailed hotlinks provided by ABACUS agents.
In addition to containing all components of a traveler's itinerary, the Virtually There Web site provides real-time information on flights, gate assignments and weather. The site also provides valuable destination information such as restaurants, sightseeing recommendations, and currency conversion calculations. This provides agents with an immediate customer service enhancement that their travelers value.
The Virtually There Web site is expected to save ABACUS and its travel agents significant time and money by eliminating the labor and costs associated with printing and distributing itineraries. And, by co-branding the Virtually There Web site with travel agent logos and marketing messages, ABACUS agents benefit from increased brand awareness and stronger customer loyalty.
"The agreement between Sabre and ABACUS further cements Sabre's position as a global leader in the travel industry," said Nancy Raynor, senior vice president and general manager, Sabre Virtually There. "We will continue to offer ABACUS exceptional value through new services and features for their customers."
"I think our travel agencies and, in turn, their customers will quickly realize what a strategic advantage it will be for them to have a tool like Virtually There at their disposal," said Patrick Lai, ABACUS vice president of e-commerce. "Virtually There is another innovative avenue for our agencies to position themselves for e-commerce, and reap benefits from the Internet. Market feedback tells us that there is a strong demand for Virtually There by both travel agencies and their customers."
As part of the agreement, ABACUS will provide content to Virtually There that is relevant to Asian markets and assist with the addition of multiple Asian language capabilities. Each itinerary is currently available in seven languages: English, French, Spanish, Portuguese, German, Italian and Dutch.
